Kyle Vande Slunt - Sound Design Demo Reel

The demo reel started with him identifying hisself as a sound designer but the demo reel was not understandable. Kyle Vande Slunt skills and services were not defined. The focus was more on being a music supervisor as music played in and out throughout the reel. The title and contact information clearly stated how to get in contact with him. I couldn’t clearly identify the contributions because the music was playing in and out throughout the demo reel making it unable to clearly defined the sound design. Very unorganized on the actual clips that where sound design it did not clearly identify his contributions. What really stood out to me was the music. Which was not the purpose of the demo reel. I lost interest because I couldn’t clearly hear the sound design and the title overlay listed music, music editor and music supervisor etc, works in a different department and those job descriptions would be on a different website, employers for sound design are not interested in, once again not referencing to sound design. The audio resonates in and out throughout the reel. The audio and transitions aren’t balanced and all projects were not on a consistent level due to not being able to hear due to the music being played as well and I can’t hear the sound design. It was not well mixed, the audio was loud in some spots and lower in some places.

This is just a few ideas if you are looking for work as a sound designer.

  1. Make sure that your projects showcases your work as a sound designer. Music and other projects other than sound design should not be in your portfolio.

2. This is a hard one but simple as well. Always check grammar. Spelling is very important you will present yourself more professionally with no errors.

3. Check sound, If no one can hear it no one can hear your awesome work that you have dedicated so much time and research on.
